Live forecast · Galveston local time
Forecast: Open-Meteo ↗
Our weather outlook favors lighter wind and gusts, lower rain chances, and no thunderstorms. “Good” means daily peak wind at most 12 mph, gusts at most 20 mph, and rain chance at most 30%. “Mixed” allows up to 18 mph wind, 28 mph gusts, and 60% rain. Higher values, thunderstorms, or wintry precipitation get “Tough.” Missing readings get no rating. This is a weather comparison, not a bite prediction or a boating safety clearance. Tides, waves, currents, and local marine alerts also matter.

Live tide predictions · Galveston local time
NOAA tide predictions ↗We compare two-hour daylight windows with changing predicted tide height, giving extra weight to first and last light, lighter wind, and less rain. Every hour must stay at or below 18 mph wind, 28 mph gusts, and 60% rain chance, with no thunderstorms or wintry precipitation. Past windows and incomplete data are excluded. These are planning suggestions, not proven bite times. Tide-height change is not a prediction of local current speed. Pier 21 tide times differ from nearby bays, passes, and beaches; weather can change actual water levels. Heights are feet above MLLW.

RIGGING NOTES / 20–40 LB BRAID
Three useful knots for braid and leaders. Choose the connection you need, then follow the full tying guide.
01 / BRAID → HOOK OR SWIVEL
A straightforward choice for tying braid to terminal tackle. Handy when attaching your main line to a leader’s swivel.
Keep the doubled strands untwisted and seat the knot evenly.
Learn to tie the Palomar ↗Guide: Animated Knots by Grog02 / BRAID → MONO / FLUORO LEADER
A slim leader connection that travels through rod guides. Worth practicing at home when you want a long leader without a bulky join.
Tension and a properly secured finish matter. Follow the full tying sequence.
Learn to tie the FG knot ↗Guide: Animated Knots by Grog03 / BRAID → MONO / FLUORO LEADER
A practical leader connection to learn for retying on the water. Two Uni knots draw together; it makes a bulkier join than an FG.
Use the wrap count suited to your line and check for slipping before fishing.
Learn to tie the Double Uni ↗Guide: Tackle WarehousePractice with your exact line and leader combination. Wet the knot before seating, pull-test the connection, and retie if it slips or the line is damaged.
